CAREERS IN GEMMOLOGY AND JEWELLERY

THE PASSION FOR PRECIOUS STONES

EIG Monaco provides training in the identification, appraisal and marketing of gemstones, precious metals, fine jewellery sets and jewellery.

The degrees awarded are in line with the European Higher Education Area and are officially recognised by a European country.

The two Bachelor’s degrees in Monegasque private law awarded by EIG Monaco are leading qualifications in the profession, recognised and accredited. They can be completed in one or two years in the Principality of Monaco, an international symbol of luxury.

EIG also offers gemmology courses throughout the year and awards professional certificates.

Through the Passion Days, you can discover the colourful world of gemstones.

Located in Monaco on the TER line, the EIG is a 2-hour journey from Marseille, 20 minutes from Nice or Ventimiglia, and 10 minutes from Menton. The EIG meets the needs of future professionals in Monaco and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.

EIG Monaco provides training for careers in gemmology, event management, and the trade in precious stones, jewellery and fine jewellery.

DETERMINE

Determine the origin and authenticity of gemstones (diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, etc.), decorative stones (agate, jasper, chalcedony, lapis lazuli, jade, etc.) and organic materials (pearls, coral, mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell, etc.). Be familiar with the families of gemstones and have a thorough understanding of colour grading.

HIGHLIGHT

Monitor the gemstone market, precious metal prices, high jewellery collections and the results of prestigious auctions. Cost a jewellery set, from design to completion. Advise design studios and suggest alternatives based on the market value of the gemstones.

Expertise

Identify existing synthetic and imitation natural stones using various laboratory tests carried out with specialist equipment such as binocular and trinocular microscopes, refractometers, polariscopes, UV lamps, immersion microscopes and many others…

RESPECT

Recognise master craftsman’s hallmarks and those of Haute Joaillerie. Distinguish between different precious metals (white gold, silver, yellow gold, copper, etc.) and alloys (platinum, vermeil, plated metals, steel, etc.). Protect designers, promote the cultural diversity of producing countries and comply with regulations.

Travels

L’École Internationale de Gemmologie de Monaco organises one or more educational trips each year to key destinations in the international gem trade. The EIG is one of the few schools in the world to incorporate intercultural understanding into its teaching framework, and to train its students in the field under the supervision of an expert gemmologist.

To introduce students to the various professions within the gemmology field in real-life settings and provide hands-on experience. The EIG’s study trips help you build your professional network. We believe these study trips are essential to training for the various professions related to gemstones. L’École Internationale de Gemmologie de Monaco therefore makes it a point of honour to train its students in the best possible way, that is to say in the field and directly at the major international gem trade centres, supervised by accessible and competent professionals, in order to provide them with the best possible support in establishing their career paths.
