10-MONTH PROGRAMME – TWO INTAKES PER YEAR: SEPTEMBER 2026 & FEBRUARY 2027
Excellence Training for a Maximum of 8 Learners per Group
Master the identification, sourcing, grading, and appraisal of natural, synthetic, and treated gemstones. You will work in a professional laboratory environment with the latest generation equipment (binocular and trinocular microscopes, immersion microscope, refractometers, spectroscopes, dichroscopes, etc.).
The pedagogical framework, created and designed by Professor Jean-Claude Boulliard (CNRS) and Charlotte Herman, has benefited from the expertise of the scientific council members. It will take you from beginner to expert in one year thanks to guidance from expert gemologists. You will analyse hundreds of gemstones covering all mineralogical families: corundums, beryls, quartz, garnets, spinels, organic materials, and collector's gemstones.
The learning combines crystallographic theory, intensive practice, and real-world professional expertise cases.
Develop your expert eye by analysing an additional 600 gemstones throughout the year. The EIG is opening its laboratories and collection for free access: you can come and train outside of class hours. This unique feature unique in Europe explain the excellence of our graduates' level.
You will learn the methodology of scientific proof, critical analysis of international expert reports, and quality control protocols from major houses. Training in the professional handling of gemstones, writing certificates compliant with CIBJO and AGTA standards, and customs and ethical regulations of the sector.
Each gemstone analysed is recorded in your laboratory notebook, a real professional portfolio.
Understand the geopolitical issues of producer countries and the codes of international gem trade.
You are studying the multi-perspective approach to cultures, international institutions, and ethical rules of the sector (Kimberley Process, traceability, CSR). The «Gemmology in English» courses prepare you for international professional exchanges where English is the language of reference.
The study trip to a producer country (Sri Lanka, Madagascar, or Thailand depending on geopolitical conditions) will expose you to on-the-ground realities: local markets, analysis offices, traders, and the cultural context.
The interculturality programme is developed by the FEDE (Federation for European Education), in partnership with the OHTE (Observatory for History Teaching) and GRECO (Group of States against Corruption). It is aligned with the Council of Europe's reference frameworks.
The European gemmology expert mobilises highly specialised skills in:
– The expertise of natural gemstones
– The performance of international laboratory analysis instruments
– The origin and traceability of gemstones
The differentiation of syntheses and imitation products
This professional has a mastery of European and international regulations, interculturality, and the geopolitical challenges of producer countries. They work in an international context where a promise is as good as a contract.
